SSC CGL Recruitment 2026 Selection Process

1. Minimum Qualifying Marks

Candidates must secure the following minimum percentages in each section of both Tier-I and Tier-II to be considered for further evaluation:
Category -  Minimum Qualifying Marks

 UR (Unreserved) - 30%
 OBC / EWS - 25%
All other categories (SC, ST, PwD, ESM) - 20%

2. Selection Stages

 * Tier-I (Qualifying): This is a screening test mandatory for all applicants. Marks scored in Tier-I are used only to shortlist candidates for Tier-II and are not included in the final merit list.
 * Tier-II (Merit-Based): This is the most critical stage as the final merit list and post-allocation are determined solely based on Tier-II performance.
   * Paper-I is compulsory for all posts.
   * Paper-II (Statistics) is required only for those applying for the Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) or Statistical Investigator Grade-II posts.
   * Computer Knowledge Test & DEST: Both are qualifying in nature but mandatory for all posts. Higher qualifying standards may be set for specific posts requiring high computer proficiency.
 * Post-Specific Tests: Certain posts, such as Inspector roles in Excise or Customs, require candidates to pass Physical Standard and Endurance Tests after clearing the written exams.

3. Option-cum-Preference Submission

Selection is not automatic based on rank alone; candidates must actively submit their Post Preferences.
 * When to Submit: A window on the official SSC portal typically opens after the Tier-II examination.
 * Importance: Final allocation is made based on the candidate's Merit-cum-Preference. Failure to submit preferences within the specified window will result in the candidate not being considered for any post, regardless of their exam score.

4. Resolution of Tie Cases

If two or more candidates score equal aggregate marks in Tier-II, the tie is broken using the following criteria in order:
 1. Marks in Paper-II (for JSO/Statistical Investigator posts only).
 2. Marks in Section-I of Paper-I (Mathematical Abilities + Reasoning).
 3. Date of Birth: Older candidates are ranked higher.
 4. Alphabetical Order: Ranking based on the first name of the candidates.

5. Final Document Verification (DV)

Candidates shortlisted in the merit list must undergo Document Verification. Required original documents usually include:
 * Matriculation/Secondary Certificate (as proof of DOB).
 * Graduation Degree and Marksheets.
 * Category Certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS) if applicable.
 * Original Photo ID proof matching the Admission Certificate.
