Educational Qualification
Candidates must possess at least a Second Class (with minimum 45% marks) in one of the following qualifications from a government-recognized University or Institution:

Age Limit (As of January 1, 2026)
* Minimum Age: 21 years
* Maximum Age: 38 years
Age Relaxation:
* OBC/MOBC: 3 years (up to 41 years)
* SC/ST: 5 years (up to 43 years)
* PwBD: 10 years (up to 48 years)
Nationality & Residency
* Applicants must be citizens of India.
* Candidates must be permanent residents of Assam. You will need to upload a valid Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) or an Employment Exchange Registration Certificate as proof during the application process.
APSC Recruitment 2026 Salary & Pay Scale
Selected candidates will receive an attractive remuneration package under Pay Band – 4:
* Scale of Pay: ₹30,000 to ₹1,10,000 per month
* Grade Pay: ₹12,700 per month
* *Plus other allowances as admissible under Assam Government rules.
APSC Recruitment 2026 Selection Process
Stage 1: Screening Test / Written Examination
If the number of applicants is large, APSC will conduct a Screening Test (OMR-based) or a written examination to shortlist candidates.
* Format: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).
* Core Subjects Covered:
* General Studies: Current affairs (National & Assam), Indian history, geography, polity, and basic mental ability.
* Core Geology (Subject-Specific): Structural Geology, Mineralogy, Petrology, Economic Geology, Geomorphology, and Stratigraphy (aligned with Master's level curriculum).
* Negative Marking: Typically applies to wrong answers in the OMR sheet (usually 0.25 marks deducted per incorrect answer).
Stage 2: Document Verification (DV)
Before the final interview, shortlisted candidates from the written exam must appear for verification of original credentials. Candidates must produce:
* Proof of Age: Matriculation/HSLC Admit Card or Certificate.
* Educational Qualifications: All semester marksheets and pass certificates of B.Sc. and M.Sc./M.Tech in Geology/Applied Geology.
* Residency Proof: Valid Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) or Employment Exchange Registration Certificate of Assam.
* Caste/Category Certificates: Valid OBC/MOBC, SC, ST, EWS, or PwBD certificates (if applying under relaxed norms).
Stage 3: Interview / Viva-Voce
Candidates who clear the screening test and document verification are invited for the personal interview.
* Total Marks: The interview is typically viva-voce style, testing depth of subject knowledge, practical understanding of mining and mineral resources in Assam, communication skills, and general suitability for the department.
* Weightage: If a screening test is conducted, the final merit list is generated by combining the scores of the written exam and the interview. If no screening test is held due to a low volume of applicants, selection is based purely on the interview performance.
Final Merit List
The final selection list is published on the official APSC website, ranking candidates based on their aggregate performance. Tie-breaking rules apply based on age (older candidates preferred) or academic percentages if interview scores are identical.
